The theme for the Outlaw Trail Festival of the Arts’ contests in 2017 is “Once In a Lifetime”!
A strong shift is occurring this year as some major changes have been made in the rules… and everyone is automatically entered in the “theme”!
We want to see the best you’ve ever had… that “Once In a Lifetime” piece that will never be duplicated!
First of all, there is no time limit for your entries. In the past, it has been a requirement that your art (or photo) must have been created within the last two years. Not this time… you may have a drawing or a photograph that was created 10, 25, or 40 years ago, if it is your “Once In a Lifetime” piece, you may enter it, as long as you created it and as long as it has never been entered in one of our previous shows. That would be Uintah Arts Council, Outlaw Trail Festival of the Arts, or any contest at the Western Heritage, or now the Uintah County Heritage Museum. If it was shown but no prizes were awarded for that show… it may be entered in our show this year.
The second big change is that each artist may now only enter two (2) pieces of artwork. So pick you two very best items.
The last big change is that we have had to revamp the prize matrix. In well over twenty years of paying out more prize money than we have taken in, we have had to trim back the cash prizes somewhat.
Our greatest hope is that all of you artists and photographers will continue to enter these shows/contests for the recognition, exposure, and just the sheer pleasure of showing off your wonderful creations.
Most of the rest of the rules are staying nearly the same, but you should double-check all of them as you prepare your entries.
Click on the tabs at the top of the web page at OutlawTrailFestival.com, to get to the information you need, whether its for the Photo Shootout or whether it’s for the Art Show. I think you’ll find everything you need.
A few things, first, check your promotions folder or junk mail if you didn’t receive the meeting invitation already sent.
Second, The Library in the large conference room has wonderful artwork and photography featuring Lori Burchinal, Jay Stocks, Deena Millecam, Susan Dart, and two other artists work. They are hosting an Open House on Monday, November 14 at 7:00 PM. Hope to see you all there!
Third, a reminder that we will be presenting our Uintah Mountain Artist group, our intentions and goals to the Chamber of Commerce at their luncheon on Tuesday, November 15 at noon at the Golden Corral. If you want to show 1 or 2 pieces of work be there by 11:30, and bring your own easel. You can buy lunch if you’d like but it’s not necessary.
Fourth, our next meeting is Wednesday, November 16. I know…busy busy busy! Creative people tend to be busy people…true?
And think on this….we need someone to oversee the “Trees for Charity Event” Artwork will be displayed in the back foyer, and the UBOC Christmas concert also wants artwork displayed that Saturday, Dec. 3rd and someone needs to oversee that Event, Be prepared to volunteer! We’ll talk about these needs on Wednesday…
Till we meet again…

“Circles, Columns & Rows” is the theme for 2015. If you want to compete in the “theme” area, it’s totally up to you to decide if your artwork relates to one, two or all three parts of that theme. Just be sure that a juror will be able to tell that it is obviously theme related.
Our Photo Shootout will be coming up in October–with the same theme–so keep those cameras handy, too.
Here’s the theme for this year’s contests:
